Hi, I’m JB 👋

I’m a qualitative UX researcher with product experience in SaaS and direct to consumer commerce.

Also… an empathic leader with excellent feedback from direct reports. Builder of UX teams from the ground up. Expert in developing frameworks, tools, and processes to deliver humanized insights clarifying user goals and motivations in a way that impacts the strategic roadmap.

How I work:

Craft

I help team members understand core concepts and tools of their craft by providing clear and constructive feedback about their work. I actively identify skill development needs for the organization and address those through hiring, advocacy, and education.

Operations

I consistently raise the bar for the end-user experience and how we work together as a team to get there. I have effectively developed systems of frameworks and tools for helping teams set their mission and vision, prioritizing high-impact work, and operationalizing UX into agile and lean software development.

Communication

I am comfortable articulating big picture strategy and vision and can bring it down to the right level to make team goals and outcomes relate to it.  I’m effective in leading cross-discipline stakeholders in workshops such as Assumption Slams and defining KPIs for UX and business outcomes.

Management

I mentor and coach managers and team members to strategically deliver insights and outcomes that have a cross-project impact. I leverage maximum impact through prioritization, workload planning, and staffing. Passionate about maintaining a high quality of life at work for teams, I meet often with folks to coach and support their career development.

What I do day to day:

Identify research opportunities that can inform product strategy and roadmap.

Promote research within the organization to create visibility and empathy.

Build processes and tools to operate a research practice that supports product design.

Coach and support team members in planning, execution, synthesis, and communication of research.

“JB is the head of our CXUX team and has built it from the ground up. Her ability to craft and execute strategic research and design has crafted the team into a force that brings clarity, focus and vision to a the internal working of a complex e-commerce site. She is a steward for positive culture and I’ve been fortunate to work for her. Jb has the obvious CX expertise needed to mentor and oversee a team with diverse capabilities and has a tremendous capability for empathy and understanding to build that team into strong independent thinkers.”

“As a product manager and product owner, I worked with Julie at Tripwire where she built the user experience department from the ground up and brought much-needed user-centered design discipline to the R&D department. Julie was an enthusiastic and creative advocate for Ux throughout Tripwire. Her approach to understanding the fundamental user problems to be solved and then validating those solutions interactively with users from wireframes all the way through working code was an experience I still consider one of the best of my career.”

“Julie is a force of nature in all aspects of user experience. She is a pioneer who will ensure that business strategy aligns with the customer reality and that customer desires are reflected in the product. And she will do it scientifically, not based on opinion. If you are working with JB you can be sure that strategy, customer, and experience will be aligned. She can be effective in environments that are just beginning to understand the value of design as well as to those that have mature practices. She will be immediately effective providing insights into the product and its users. You will not need to wait for a long drawn out process to be put in place in order to begin reaping the benefits of her evolved methods. JB will make things happen and you will be happy that she did.”
